Catch problems early, treat them small
A regular dental check-up and clean helps protect your teeth and gums. At Mount Druitt Dental, our team provides examinations, professional teeth cleaning and advice for adults and children.
During your appointment, we check for early signs of tooth decay, gum disease, tooth wear, cracks and problems with fillings or crowns, and remove plaque and hardened tartar from areas that are difficult to clean at home. Finding concerns early may allow them to be managed before they become more complicated or costly.
Many patients benefit from a check-up every six to twelve months, though the right schedule depends on your oral health, dental history and needs — your dentist will recommend a suitable recall period.

What To Expect
During your visit
Comprehensive examination
We examine your teeth, gums and mouth for cavities, gum inflammation, tooth wear, cracks and other changes, and assess your bite and existing dental work. X-rays may be recommended when due or when more information is needed — they can reveal decay between teeth and problems below the gumline.
Professional scale, clean & polish
Even with good brushing and flossing, plaque collects in hard-to-reach areas and hardens into tartar that a normal toothbrush can't remove. We gently remove plaque and tartar around your teeth and gumline, then polish your teeth smooth and fresh.
Fluoride & preventive advice
Where appropriate, fluoride helps strengthen enamel and protect against decay. We offer practical, friendly guidance on brushing, flossing, interdental cleaning, diet, sensitive teeth or caring for restorations — with realistic recommendations for your family.
A clear treatment plan
If we find an issue needing further care, we explain what we've found and discuss your options, with a clear treatment plan and expected fees before proceeding — so you can make an informed decision.
Why It Matters
Why regular check-ups matter
Dental problems don't always cause pain in their early stages. A regular check-up lets your dentist monitor changes and address concerns promptly, and preventive visits can reduce plaque and tartar build-up, support healthier gums and protect your dental work.
Routine appointments are important for the whole family — children can become comfortable visiting the dentist from an early age, while adults receive care tailored to changes in their teeth and gums.
No-gap check-ups and cleans
Patients with eligible dental extras cover may be able to receive a no-gap check-up and clean, subject to their health fund, available benefits and our No-Gap Policy. Cover varies between policies, so we recommend checking your remaining benefits before your appointment.
FAQs
Check-up questions, answered
How often should I get a check-up and clean?
Most patients benefit from a check-up and clean every six months. This helps catch decay, gum disease and other issues early, when they're easier and cheaper to treat.
Does a check-up and clean hurt?
No — a professional scale and clean shouldn't be painful. Some patients with sensitive teeth or gums may feel mild sensitivity, which our team can help manage.
What's included in the new patient offer?
Our new patient offer includes a comprehensive examination, professional scale and polish, and fluoride treatment, for $119 (adults) or $89 (kids under 12). X-rays are included where clinically needed.
Will I need x-rays every visit?
Not necessarily. X-rays are only taken when clinically needed, based on your dentist's assessment and your dental history.
Is a check-up and clean covered by health insurance?
Many private health funds cover all or part of a check-up and clean under extras cover. Ask our team about our No-Gap Policy to check your eligibility.
